Service info and troubleshooting

ORF ON App Refuses to Open

If the ORF ON app crashes on launch or stays on a black screen, the most common cause is an outdated app version. Check your device's app store for pending updates and install them. If that doesn't help, clear the app cache through your device settings — on Android this is under App Info, on iOS you'll need to delete and reinstall the app entirely. Make sure your device runs a supported OS version, as older firmware can cause silent compatibility failures.

Video Playback Keeps Buffering or Freezing

Stuttering streams usually point to a bandwidth problem rather than a server issue. Run a quick speed test — ORF ON live streams need at least 5 Mbps for stable HD playback. If your connection is fine but buffering persists, try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data to isolate the issue. Reducing the stream quality in the player settings often resolves freezing when the network fluctuates.

Login Fails Despite Correct Credentials
  • Double-check that Caps Lock isn't affecting your password entry
  • Reset your password through the account recovery flow if login keeps failing
  • Clear browser cookies and cached data before trying again
  • Check whether third-party cookies are blocked in your browser settings, as the login process may depend on them
Content or Media Files Won't Load

This typically happens when DNS resolution slows down or the CDN serving the media has a hiccup. Switching to a public DNS like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 can make a noticeable difference. If images and thumbnails load but video doesn't start, your browser may be missing a required codec — try a different browser or update your current one.

Search Returns No Results or Wrong Ones

If the search bar produces empty results or unrelated content, it's often a caching issue on the client side. Reload the page without cache using Ctrl+Shift+R on desktop. On mobile, a full app restart usually clears stale search index data. If the problem continues across multiple devices, the service's search index may be temporarily out of sync — waiting 10–15 minutes and trying again tends to resolve it.

Notifications and Alerts Stop Arriving
  • Confirm that app notifications are enabled in your device's system settings
  • Check that battery optimization isn't restricting background activity for the app
  • Sign out and back in to refresh the notification token, which can expire silently
Server Unavailability and Error Pages

When the site returns 502 or 503 errors, or the app shows a generic connection error, the issue is usually on the infrastructure side and temporary. Waiting a few minutes and retrying is the practical first step. You can also try accessing the service through a different network — mobile data instead of your home router — to rule out local ISP routing problems.
