Service info and troubleshooting

Video Won't Load or Keeps Buffering

Slow or interrupted video playback is the most common complaint with RaiPlay. Start by checking your connection speed — streaming HD content needs at least 5–10 Mbps stable throughput. If other sites load fine but the player still stalls, clear your browser cache or delete the app's cached data on mobile. Switching from Wi-Fi to a wired connection often helps too. On smart TVs, a full power cycle (not just standby) can reset the network stack and resolve buffering that's been going on for days.

App Freezes or Crashes on Launch

If the RaiPlay app hangs on the loading screen or closes immediately, the fix is usually straightforward:

  • Force-close the app completely, then reopen it
  • Check whether a newer app version is available in your device's store
  • Restart the device itself, not just the app
  • If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the app fresh
Login Fails or Password Is Not Accepted

Authentication errors often come down to a stale session or a browser storing outdated credentials. Try logging out, clearing cookies for the site, and logging back in. On mobile, go into the app settings and use the sign-out option before re-entering your details. If the password reset email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder and make sure you're using the address tied to your account registration.

Search Returns No Results or Wrong Content

The search function can behave oddly when the app or browser tab has been open for a long time. Refreshing the page or restarting the app usually restores normal search behavior. On smart TVs, a slow DNS response can cause the content catalog to load incompletely — switching your router's DNS to a public resolver like 1.1.1.1 sometimes fixes this entirely.

Subtitles or Audio Track Won't Switch

If changing the audio language or enabling subtitles has no effect, the player may be stuck in a cached state. Reload the video from scratch rather than using the back button. On the web version, disabling browser extensions one by one can help identify if something is interfering with the player controls. On mobile, toggling the subtitle option off and on again mid-playback occasionally forces it to apply correctly.

Server Errors and Unavailable Content

Occasional 500-level errors or messages indicating content is unavailable can come from temporary backend issues on RAI's side. Wait a few minutes and try again. If a specific show consistently fails to load while others work, it may be a regional rights issue affecting that title rather than a general outage. Trying a different device or browser confirms whether the problem is isolated to your setup or platform-wide.
